Inhibitory dysfunction may cause prospective memory impairment in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) patients: an event-related potential study

چکیده
Introduction Prospective memory (PM) is the ability to remember future intentions, and PM function closely related independence in daily life, particularly patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE). As involves various cognitive components of attention, working memory, inhibition other executive functions, this study investigated how TLE may affect underlying neural mechanisms. Methods Sixty-four subjects were recruited, including 20 refractory patients, 18 well-controlled 26 age-matched healthy controls. A set neuropsychological tests was administered assess specific brain functions. An event-related potential (ERP) task used further explore its would be differentially affected two types. Results Our findings revealed that: (1) scored lower than controls digit span, Verbal Fluency Test Symbol Digit Modalities Test; (2) exhibited impaired performance reduced prospective positivity amplitudes over frontal, central parietal regions ERP experiments when compared controls; (3) decreased P3 nogo trials observed frontal-central sites but not patients. Discussion To our knowledge, first on that has specifically identified impairment finding double dissociation suggests dysfunction main reason for deficit The present results have clinical implications rehabilitation

متن کاملTemporal Lobe Impairment in West Syndrome: Event-Related Potential Evidence
OBJECTIVE This study investigates auditory processing in infants with West syndrome (WS) using event-related potentials (ERPs). METHODS ERPs were measured in 25 infants with mainly symptomatic WS (age range = 3-10 months) and 26 healthy term infants (age range = 3-9 months) using an auditory novelty oddball paradigm. The ERP recordings were made during wakefulness and repeated in stage II sle...
متن کاملA left temporal lobe impairment of auditory information processing in schizophrenia: an event-related potential study.
A measure of auditory prepulse inhibition (PPI) is the reduction of the scalp-recorded P1 event-related potential (ERP) after a sound that is preceded by 100-300 ms by a click as prepulse. This measure of sensory gating was adapted to study the effect of a prepulse on processing tones that were part of a 'go no-go' discrimination. ERPs were recorded at right and left, frontal and temporal sites...
متن کاملMemory Impairment in Children with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy: a Review
Introduction: The authors present a review article on memory aspects of temporal lobe epilepsy in childhood. Methods: We performed a search in the literature. Results: Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in childhood present with great clinical, electroencephalographic and etiological diversity. The neuropsychological features in children with TLE are not well-defined yet. The relationship between the...
متن کاملP 111: Use of Stem Cell Therapy for Treatment of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE)
Epilepsy is one of the most common neuroinflammatory disorders that affect more than 50 million people worldwide. Excessive electrical discharges in neurons following neural cell damage or loss leads to recurrent seizures, which are described as epilepsy. One of the most common and difficult to treat types of epilepsy is Temporal Lobe Epilepsy (TLE), which results from hippocampal sclerosis. Cu...
